Couponing is Not Always About the Money

When I first got into Couponing, it was because my husband had gotten sick and I was trying to find a way to cut expenses to compensate for the $300 we were going to have to spend on medicine for him. We are living on Social Security and money is tight.

I took a class under an Extreme Couponer and learned how to read sales circular and not a whole lot more. Of course, I understand that no Extreme Couponer would want to share the secrets of how to save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year with just a regular shopper like me.

But those that know me know I can take just a little information and turn it into something beneficial to me and my family. I can’t stand stupidity... not even in myself, so I studied and dug deeper into this new thing called Couponing.

Guess what I learn? Yep, it was something I already knew how to do; I just needed to upgrade my way of doing it. This is basically what you gotta’ do.

#1 Shop the Sales Circulars

#2 Make a shopping list

#3 Add coupons into the mix

#4 Sales and Coupons come in cycles

#5 Stock up enough to make it until the next sale/cycle

After you get to where you are shopping from your panty and not having to run to the store every day, what do you do next? This is where you start having FUN – FUN – FUN.

Fun? Did I say having fun Couponing? Oh, yes... There is fun, fun, and more fun. Did you know that when you learn how to coupon and all the secrets of Couponing, you can save money and still have fun? It only took me three months to get to the point of having a not-running-to-the-store-every-day stock and that’s when I realized that Couponing was fun. “Prepping” was relaxing and more fun that playing games on Facebook. (gasp!)

But it’s true. I found I could get “into” the game of Couponing. Saving money and “playing” the Couponing game WAS more relaxing and de-stressing that playing Hay Day on my iPhone or Candy Crush on Facebook. Oh my gosh. What next?

Maybe you could even consider my version of: Hunting the “buck” game. It sure beats sitting out in the woods, getting eat up by bugs, and etc... not counting all the money you spend for hunting apparel and supplies. Did you know that you could even be paid by some stores to tote the junk out for them? But that is another part of Couponing!

Then I got into teaching Couponing... I love teaching others how to coupon. I have a Three Point lesson plan.
Basic introduction to Couponing; Learning to read the coupon; Where and when to get coupons; Organizing your coupon collection.
Putting it All Together: Sales and Coupon cycles; Kinds of Coupons; Coupon Terminology; Price Matching; and more
Advance Couponing: the Couponer's Secrets; Prepping; Food Storage; and Q&A – Answering all the important questions.

Then I got into buying and selling Coupons... Did you know Couponing is big business and you can bring in extra money selling coupons to people trying to save money? I started out trying to buy $1/2 (that $1 off each two boxes) coupons for Club Crackers. My hubby loves these “green box” crackers and right now they are selling for $2.88 at my local Wal-Mart store. But if you find a sale ($1.99 at CVS this week) and buy two boxes for $3.98 and add in the coupon discount of $1, you are only paying $1.49 a box. You have saved $1.39 a box over the local Wal-Mart price. Multiply that price times ten boxes and you have saved $13.90 over a couple of months. Actually hubby and the grandbabies can go through ten boxes or more a month!

And that was just ONE example of Couponing. Multiply that many times over to really understand the rules of the “game” of Couponing.

We are not going to talk about the seventy-five boxes of Hamburger Helper I got for 50-67% off. Yep, I only paid 75¢ for the first fifty boxes and then they had “peelies” that allowed me to get the rest at 50¢ a box when the items normally sold for $1.50 a box. We are also not gonna’ talk about the canned peas, beans, and corn I got for 29¢ a can or the hamburger meat I bought in bulk and repacked into one pound packages and froze to use with the Hamburger Helper. Hey, add fresh bread and in thirty minutes you have a quick meal!

But, this week it is all about Dawn detergent. Dawn Hand Renewal (9oz) normally sells any where from $1.49 to $1.99 depending on the store. One of my local grocery stores has it on sale for $1.19 (savings of 40¢ at that store) and I have a .50/1 (50¢ off one bottle) coupon. But that store doubles coupons 50¢ and under every day. So Dawn is $1.19, less my 50¢ coupon, less the store bonus of 50¢ makes that dish detergent only 19¢ a bottle for me!!! That is a savings of at least $1 to $1.50 a bottle for me over regular price. Too bad that the coupon restricts me to buying only four bottles a day... but the store is only one mile away... so I am going every day and buying four bottles (along with any unadvertised specials)... until my coupons run out or the sale is over. The sale and the coupons save me $10 on ten bottles. I will get enough Dawn so I don’t have to buy dish detergent for at least three months. Unfortunately the store ran out and would not get more in until after the sale went off... but I got a “rain check” so when more comes in I can get it at the same sale price. Even the cashier commented on the 19¢ a bottle price! I am not a hoarder; I just want enough to make it until the next sale in 3-4 months...say about fifteen bottles of the 9oz bottles.

And that is rule #5. Stock up enough to make it until the next sale.

Are we having fun yet? I am. Like I said: It beats playing games on Facebook... which I still do. But just the fun of figuring out when and where the sales are for the next “stock up” item will be. And yes, there is a system for the madness. In May and June you will find sales for ballgame foods: mustard, barbeque sauce, wieners, chips, soda pop, etc. Or November is Turkey Time and you want to stock up while the prices are cheap... enough to last a few months. Hope you have a freezer or two! Christmas you need to think “baking supplies.” And the list goes on.

And yes, that is Rule #2: Make a list. You need a list of what you want to stock up on for the pantry and when the “best price” time will be. Flour, sugar, salt, peanut butter, shortening, cereal, cooking oil, laundry and dish detergent, shaving supplies...and so forth. Toilet Paper, hair coloring, shaving supplies are just a few of the things you should never pay full price for and a few of the things you should have at least a three to six month supply of in your stock closet. And sales of clothing, household goods, etc. also cycle.

Life is a “waiting” game... waiting for the light to turn green, waiting for the kids at ball practice, waiting for your deer to come in sight... whatever. This is when you can play the mind game of: What do I Need to Stock up on Next? Making a list in your mind or on paper beats getting frustrated waiting your life away!

So the next time you have a few minutes waiting... grab that sales circular and those coupons that are in the Sunday paper and play the “Match Up” game. See how much you can save while you are being paid to play (a penny saved is a penny earned.... or in my case: a dollar saved... is a dollar I can spend on something else... like that new dress or a trip to Taco Bell or the Sweet Frog Yogurt Shop!)

But know that, SEO keeps changing and every day is a new day and strategies you used yesterday may be obsolete today. So, keep in mind the future before you proceed. The best thing to do is to put your visitors priorities first and automatically search engines would be pleased.

After all, getting loads of traffic with no conversions is useless.
Veterans please note:

We've all got our very own ideas regarding SEO and there's no single way to do it. So if you've got something to say or if you disagree, feel free to leave a comment. I'm always open to friendly conversations.
Newbies, I'm ready to help:

Have you got questions that I've failed to answer through this article? If that's the case, feel free to leave a comment and I'll get back to you within 12 hours or so on most days with a detailed comment or a link to something that would help you out. In some cases I may even add a new section to the article, if I think it's relevant.

I'm currently making this same argument to my father, a small business owner himself. He's a CPA, not a writer. He doesn't have time to blog. He doesn't know what to write about. And a litany of other reasons why blogging just isn't possible.

My father is rarely wrong. But in this instance, he is wrong—and if you're reading his excuses and nodding along to yourself, you're wrong too.

You're not an independent blogger trying to make some cash from your blog. You're a business owner, and your aim is SEO.

At the risk of being redundant, here are some key ways a blog will help you. (If these don't sound familiar, do yourself a favor and go back and read this page from the beginning.) A blog allows you to continuously add content. Once or twice a week is fine—Google will see that you're periodically adding content, and this is a very, very good thing. It's simple to include keywords when you're writing about those keywords. A blog post is the ultimate SEO pass: if the topic of your blog post is the keyword, it's almost effortless to include that keyword in all the right places and with the right frequency. And you don't even have to sound like a robot while you're doing it. You don't need to be a writer to manage a blog. I mean, OK, obviously you need the ability to form words and complete thoughts—but you don't need an English degree to express your thoughts on something in your industry. You have a business in your industry, which means you obviously know something about it. Share it! A blog has other perks. Among those perks: gaining recognition as a source for valuable content, providing a venue to engage with your customers (as opposed to talking at them with your website, you have the opportunity to talk with them), and building up your archive (there's that "original copy" solution).

We also have to be honest to ourselves about our own limitations. Are we really producing content that's worth reading and worth sharing?

Search the topic you're writing an article about and look at the first page of your favorite search engine. Are your website, your article, your insights and your tips clearly superior to the top results for that topic? Why should your page be listed ahead of all those other pages? What do you provide that they do not?

Here's an analogy to web content: early television. Some of the shows were silly, vapid, shallow and poor production quality by today's standards, and would never get funded today. On the web, by contrast, it costs almost nothing to publish content, so all the amateur work sloshes around side-by-side with expert content. We have more opportunities to get our work published, but that doesn't make us entitled to have our work read. We have to earn eyeballs, just like any other form of published media.

SEO techniques can help us get started, serving as training wheels. It's worthwhile to watch our traffic and learn what questions, concerns, needs and search queries drew traffic to our articles. But SEO or any other techniques cannot make up for lackluster content.

So here's one takeaway lesson: Stop writing articles on things you don't know well or don't care that much about. Who's going to share that? What search engine would link to that?

Instead, concentrate on niches and topics that you never get tired of reading about, things that fascinate or motivate you, things that you care about or are angry about or would truly recommend to a friend. You'll have a better chance of creating content that intrigues others if you write on things that intrigue you.

eBay Sellers: Why You Should Have an “About Me,” Page

Are you an eBay seller? If you are looking for ways to make money from home, there is a good chance that you may be. When it comes to working from home or making money from home, one of the first places that people turn to is eBay. The only problem is that to make money on eBay, you must be a successful seller. There are a number of steps that you can take to become a successful eBay seller. One of those steps involves creating an “About Me,” page.

If you are relatively new to selling on eBay, you may not know what an “About Me,” page is. An “About Me,” page is a webpage that allows you to write anything that you want about you, the items that you sell, or type of services that you offer. Due to the possibility of being scammed on eBay, a large number of eBay buyers want to do business with someone that they feel they can trust. One of the best, yet easiest ways, to go about creating trust is by creating an “About Me,” page. Although it may seem simple to you, it actually means a lot in the eyes of many eBay buyers. And, to be a successful eBay seller, public perception is everything.

As it was previously stated, if you are interested in creating an “About Me,” page, there is a section where you can write whatever you want to write. If you want to be a successful eBay seller, you will want to give information that you feel could be useful to you. For instance, if you are selling on eBay because you are a stay at home mom or dad, you may want to write that, but in a professional matter. Explaining your purpose for being an eBay seller is a great way to get an eBay buyer to see you as a person, just like themselves.

If you consider yourself to be a fulltime eBay seller or if you specialize in a certain type of product, like kids clothing, you may want to mention that in your personalized “About Me,” section. In addition to the samples outlined above, you will also want to add in anything else that you may find useful or something that you think will grab the attention or trust of potential buyers. When making your own personalized “About Me,” page section, it is important that you use your best judgment. Look at it from the perspective of an eBay buyer; what would you like to see on your own page?

In addition to your own personalized section, there are some sections that eBay automatically includes on a seller’s “About Me,” page. One of those items is a summary of current items available for sale. For instance, if you have a number of auctions currently going, those auctions will be summarized on your “About Me,” page, for everyone to see. All visitors are provided with a link to the auction listing, the current highest bidding price, as well as a short description of what is currently available for sale. In a way, having an “About Me,” page may also increase your chances of getting a sale, since a visitor to your page may see something that catches their eye.

eBay “About Me,” pages also commonly include information on feedback. If you are an established eBay seller, particularly one that has a good feedback rating, this may work out to your advantage, as visitor will be able to see that you are reputable eBay seller. If you have a number of feedback ratings, only a certain number, most commonly the recent ones, will be shown. This includes positive, negative, and neutral feedback ratings from your past eBay transactions.

Having an “About Me,” eBay page is completely optional, but, as outlined above, there are a number of benefits to having one. With an eBay “About Me,” page only taking a few minutes to make, you are advised to at least give it a try. After all, you may be surprised with the results.

eBay Users: What You Need to Know About Phishing Scams

Are you an eBay user? Whether you use eBay to do your online shopping or if you use eBay to generate extra income for yourself, as an eBay seller, there is something that you need to be aware of. As an eBay user, whether you are a seller or a buyer, you need to be on the lookout for phishing scams. Phishing scams are rapidly increasing in popularity and many are using eBay as a front. To protect your identity, as well as you finances, you need to be on the lookout for them.

If you are relatively new to eBay or online shopping in general, you may not know exactly what phishing scams are. Do you? If not, you should know that phishing scams are actually complex online scams. A shady individual or a scammer makes a fake website that is similar to eBay or at least a fake eBay sign in page. You are then sent an email that appears as if it was from eBay. The only thing is that it wasn’t. The goal of a phishing scam is to get you to visit the fake page and enter in your eBay sign in information, including your eBay screen name and your eBay password. Once a scammer has your information, they get access to you personal information stored on eBay, as well as free use of your eBay account.

One of the reasons why phishing scams are so easy to fall victim to is because they give you the impression that is something is wrong with you eBay account or that you did something wrong yourself. For instance, many phishing scams contain a message asking why you didn’t pay for an item that you ordered or outline the fact that your eBay account has been suspended. The goal is to get you so worried that you will automatically click on the link to get the problem solved; however, as previously mentioned, the link takes you to a site that looks just like eBay, but it isn’t. There is where the trouble comes in.

If you get an eBay phishing scam email, you will want to do a little bit of detective work, before actually clicking on the link. In fact, you shouldn’t even click on the link. The first thing that you will want to do is look at your name, as most eBay phishing emails start with “Dear eBay Member,” or something along those lines. Real eBay messages will refer to you by your eBay screen name or even your real name. You can also roll your mouse over the link provided to you and see where it will actually take you. In most cases, you will find that you are being directed to another site, not eBay.com. All eBay messages should appear in your “My eBay,” message box. To see if eBay really sent you an email, you can log into your eBay account, from a brand new window that you open up, and check your messages, if you even have any at all.

If you do receive an eBay phishing scam email, you are advised to contact eBay or examine eBay’s help center. There you will find instructions on how to report the email or send a copy of it to eBay. Although your first thought may be to delete the eBay phishing scam email, you will actually want to follow eBay’s reporting instructions. You may know that you are being scammed, but other may not. Reporting an eBay phishing scam to eBay allows them to take care of the problem; thus likely reducing the number of eBay users who fall victim to similar scams.

Now that you know exactly what eBay phishing scams are, you are urged to be on the lookout for them. Keeping an open eye is your best line of defensive against eBay phishing scams or any phishing scams for that matter.

What You Should Know About Blog Marketing

Whether you are a new blogger, or one that has been blogging for a while, you are probably wondering how to get more sales, visitors, and readers to your blog on a weekly basis. Marketing your blog the right way will give you the results that you are looking for. You are going to find that you can not just make a blog, post in it a couple of times, and then expect for the world to find you. That just will not happen how much you wish for it. However, you can market your blog effectively, and get the results that you are looking for.

To begin blog marketing you first need a blog. The next step is to ensure that your blog is updated frequently. Post content in your blog regularly for the best results. Some will post once a day and others once a week. Whichever it is, be consistent with it and know that it will pay off to continue posting as you should. This is a great way to get started with blog marketing. You wont have a blog to market if you do not post in it regularly.

While most free blogs all look the same, you can make sure that your blog design stands out. You don’t want your blog to look and feel like everyone else’s, so make it different. Having your own look is a huge plus in the blog marketing world. You will find that most blogs all look the same and you can have your own look by just using HTML and adjusting the code to suit your taste. You are going to see that this will truly make a difference with your blog as well as your readers. Try to get a theme that is going to match the market that you are promoting in your blog. Doing so will make it look even more professional. You don’t want your readers to confuse your blog with others do you? If this is something that you are concerned about, you will definitely want to make sure that you change yours to make more personable. However, if you are not worried about it or concerned about it in the least, you can leave the design as one of the free templates that you see so frequently used.

Something else that will help you with your blog marketing is exchanging links with authority blogs and websites that are in your same market is another great way to get the word out about your blog. The authority sites are going to have a higher page rank, and will also be listed high in Google’s search results. So do some searches and check those out and see if they are up to exchanging links. If they are not, you could always just add those into your blog roll. You do not need permission to do that if they are not into linking. However, in the world of blogs, most blog owners are thankful for all links, and are willing to return the favor. This is a great way to market your blog that some do not think about or use. If you use this technique to get your blog seen, you will not be sorry. You can even use this for website marketing, and you will see a lot sites do that.

Learning About Blogging and Blog Marketing

Blogs, which are also known as web logs are all the rage right now online. Everyone has a blog, and everyone is making money by blogging. The question is how are they doing it? What is so special about a blog that you can make money by posting on it? First you should know that a blog is a little bit like an online journal. You can make posts in it about anything that you want to, and then publish it for the whole world to read. If you have never blogged before, it is a good idea to do so just for fun in the beginning, so that you can get a feel of what it is about.

Once you have become familiar with the blogging platform, and kind of get the jest of it, you will be ready to try and make some money at blogging. However, for a beginner blog marketer, you want to take it slow and one step at a time. You will need to do things in order and that will help keep you from getting overwhelmed with it all.

The first thing that you want to do is find a niche to blog about. This can be anything that you know, want to know, or want to learn. Become an expert in that field. The more you know, the better. The niche can be anything that you want it to be. It can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. Think about something that you know and love, something that you want to learn all about. You will come up with a niche that will be perfect before you know it.

Now that you know what your blog will be all about, you are ready to get down to business. First of all you want to decide how often you will update your blog. Will it be daily? Every other day? Maybe even weekly? Whichever you choose, stick with it and make sure that you hardly ever miss an update. Once you get readers to your blog you want them to know that you will update it as often as you say. They need to know how often to check and visit your blog for new information. If you post like you say you will, you will end up with a large reader base that will follow you anywhere.

So now that you have a niche, and have decided how often your blog will be updated, it is time to get down to some marketing. To begin with, you need to get back links. Back links are important and they mean that someone is linking to you. There are a few ways that you can get these much needed links. You can look around on the internet and find some sites that are relevant to your niche and request a link, or your can post comments on other blogs that are relevant and leave a link behind with your comment. Either way, they both work and they both count as links that you need to your blog.

Are you trying to sell things from your blog? If so you are going to find that promoting products in your blog is a great marketing technique that you can use as well. People do it everyday and make lots of money from it. Whether it is affiliate links, or your own products and services that you are promoting, you are going to find that blog marketing is one of the best ways to get the word out and let people know that you are in business. Marketing from your blog has never been easier.

With all of the great tools that are out there now for blog marketing, it is really hard to have a blog fail when you use them. Make sure that you ping your blog every time it is updated, and work on those links as they will make a huge difference.

Things To Know About Affiliate Marketing

The truth behind affiliate marketing is the fact that

90% of affiliates will actually make less than 100$

a month. Therefore, you shouldn't count on making

full time income unless you can get very good at the

following:

1. Building a good web site that converts.

2. Search engine optimization. You'll need a

lot of traffic, as maybe 1 out of 200 visitors will

buy your products. SEO can help you get your site

in the search engines so more people will be able to

find you.

3. The trial and error of picking the right

merchants and learning the correct ways to promote

them.

Too many people out there assume that affiliate

marketing is actually a get rich quick type of

program. These types of people will throw up a

couple of banners, then wonder why they never make

a single sale or any money at all.

How long you'll need to do it depends on how much

money you are wanting to make. If you are a quick

learner and really good at affiliate marketing, you

may high 2,000 in 2 years. This is based on the

fact that you are starting at 0 and the fact that

you have another full time job, not being able to

devote a lot of time working with your affiliate

marketing program.

If you decide to give it a try, the hardest challenge

will be the first few months. If you check your

stats and see that you are only making a couple of

bucks, you'll find yourself wondering if all the

hard work was worth it. If you get some sales

going and stay committed with your hard work, the

commissions should start growing.

One of the biggest factors with affiliate marketing

is the traffic that goes through your site. Even

though you'll get a lot of traffic passing through

your website, only a fraction of the traffic will

be buyers.

The key here is knowing your visitors and then

being able to determine which affiliate programs

you can offer to meet their needs. There is also

the concept of pre sale, which is the ability

to put your visitors in the required open and

Google Adsense: Learning About the Program and the Most Important Rule

How Does Google Adsense Program Work For Webmasters Wanting to Earn Income?

Advertisers pay Google when someone clicks on their ads which are placed on pages that contain text. For example, if you write content about lawn mowers, you will likely see ads from lawn mower manufacturers and/or retailers on that page. When someone clicks on those ads, the advertiser pays Google and Google pays you. Of course, the advertiser is hoping the person that clicked on the add will actually purchase the lawn mower or whatever they’re offering.

In fact, Google is very strict about the integrity of this process. You are forbidden to click on your own ads. If you do, your Adsense account will be terminated and you might never get it back. You are also prohibited from asking others to click on “your ads”. It makes sense. Why would advertisers want to pay just so your friends and family could click on your ads when no one is really interested in purchasing the lawn mower or subject of the ad.

The good news is that it’s not necessary to “cheat.” Google Adsense is so easy you’ll make more money just going by the rules. Have or write interesting content that will turn up in search engines and you have “targeted” the right people to read those ads. Just think, somebody in Indiana buys a lawn mower and you get a commission!

What Not to Tell Others About the Google Adsense Program – The Most Important Rule

Sympathy only goes so far. Not only is it against the Google Adsense Program Policies but if you rely on friends and family members to click on your ads instead of diligently working the program, you’re cheating yourself – and the Google Adsense Program.

The “help me out” wail may work when your kid is selling outrageously expensive candles for the end of the year school party but it has no place in the Google Adsense Program.

Besides, if you’re asking people to click on your ads, that means you’re not optimizing your site for valid clicks as well as referrals. Use that same energy to polish your content and your site. When family and friends ask what you’ve been up to, you can proudly show them your hard work. When they see how excited you are, you’ll see your referral revenue go up.
